"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first."
Mark Twain
I am a firm believer in the realization that my world is directly relative to personal goals and hard work. I teach my children that life was never meant to be fair and that we have to learn to rise above and figure out a way to hurdle any obstacles that we face. Mark Twain was a very inciteful man who never sugar-coated life, rather he faced it head-on with realism and a determination to make it better. Hard work and sacrifice are a vital part of developing good character. We should always strive to leave our world just a little bit better than we found it.

Mark Twain is such a historical figure to me. I lived in Copperopolis, California for a few years and was immersed in the local history. Mark Twain had a cabin in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada's and whenever someone from out of town came to visit this was a popular site- seeing destination. While living in Calaveras County, Twain wrote 27short stories included in his collection from 1867, one of which was "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County".
Shellye,
I am glad to know that we share a love of Twain! Thank you for your interesting comments on my additional quote.
